In the last year or so, 2 new start-ups have entered the hotel booking game. The first I discussed awhile ago, and I used pointshound.com to claim a Best Rate Guarantee night with Starwood Preferred Guest.
The other new entrant is called Rocketmiles. When making a hotel booking, Rocketmiles will pay you a substantial number of miles in your choice of the following programmes:
- Alaska Airlines
- American Airlines
- Delta Airlines
- Air France / KLM Flying Blue
- Hawaiian Airlines
- United Airlines
- US Airways
- Virgin America
The amount of miles offered depends presumably on Rocketmiles’ profit margin on the wholesale prices it has negotiated. For high end properties, you can be offered as much as 5,000+ miles per night, although it’s more typical to be offered 1,000-1,500 miles per night. Although that sounds like a lot of miles, you definitely need to keep an eye on what other websites such as hotels.com are charging, and the amount of cashback + Welcome Rewards you would receive. Otherwise you may just be paying a high price for some miles!
For further information on Rocketmiles, you can look around their website. The purpose of this post is to highlight a promotion. If you sign up as a new member and make a hotel booking before 14 December, 2013 (for a stay until 31 March, 2014) you will receive 3,000 bonus US Airways Dividend Miles. (in addition to the minimum 1,000 standard miles you will get for the hotel night(s)). With some luck you will also get an additional 1,000 miles for being referred by me. I hopefully will also get 1,000 miles for the referral…
So, to sign up for Rocketmiles, please use this link.
I realise that US Airways Dividend Miles may not be all that attractive or well-known to many Europeans. But, since the merger with American Airlines is finally going ahead, these two programmes will be merged, in which case you’ll end up with some AAdvantage miles that are more valuable than British Airways Avios.
So, I intend to make a 1 night booking to test out Rocketmiles, which hopefully will send 4,000 miles my way…
