All Nippon Airways is launching a new route – from Dusseldorf to Tokyo Narita – and is using it as an excuse for a fast track promotion (for European members only) that would give Platinum status in the ANA Mileage Club. This would be Star Alliance Gold, with all of the corresponding benefits of that level of status. Check out my autumn 2013 review of ANA Mileage Club.
In order to participate in this promotion, you need to register here. If you manage to earn 15,000 ANA “Premium Points” on ANA-operated flights between 30 March and 30 June, 2014, you will receive Platinum status for 7 months, from September 2014 until March 2015.
“Premium Points” appear to be rather complicated. You can find out further information on the ANA website. Essentially however, they are a standard actual miles flown with a class and fare multiplier. There is also an added bonus for shorter trips within Asia. (and who knows why the concept of Boarding Points is needed?!?!)
Considering this only really requires a return flight in Business Class from Europe to Japan, it may be worthwhile for a select few with upcoming ANA flights. (even though gaining status for only 7 months is rather weak) For the rest of us, stick with Aegean Airlines or Turkish Airlines as your route to Star Alliance Gold.
