I rarely stay at Marriott hotels, mostly because qualifying for status is too difficult, but I have a handful of points left from the social media experiment from last year that handed out free points for Facebook and Twitter activities. Without stays at Marriott – particularly given the demise of Megabonus free nights – it’s hard to accumulate enough Marriott points to be able to empty out my account on a free night somewhere.
Luckily I noticed this promotion from Marriott Rewards and Hertz.
It’s not entirely clear whether the 2,000 / 5,000 points are in addition to the standard 500 points Marriott Rewards members normally earn. I also don’t have a very good handle on the value of a Marriott Rewards point, but I do know that, for small top-ups, Marriott Rewards charges $12.50 for 1000 points. So if I were to rent a car for 2 days, I will save the $25 I might otherwise have to spend on 2,000 points to top up my Marriott Rewards account.
You should be able to access the Hertz website via a cashback portal and enter the codes manually, qualifying both for cashback as well as these bonus points.
