The easiest way to obtain elite status in a major hotel chain is usually a status match. For example, as I wrote about previously, Hilton HHonors is now formally offering status matches to status holders from a variety of competing chains.
For those without any form of elite status, however, a status match offer does not really do much good. Enter Hilton HHonors (again) who often offer fast-track offers to reach its Gold status level. Unlike other chains, this mid-tier status – HHonors highest level of status is Diamond – actually has some pretty decent benefits such as free breakfast, space-available upgrades, bonus points on paid stays, fifth night free on award bookings, etc.
HHonors’ latest fast-track promotion is supposedly offered to members of South African Airways’ frequent flyer programme. I don’t believe HHonors even bother to check whether the applicant is actually a SAA member, but of course it would take seconds to open a new SAA account.
To successfully complete the fast-track challenge, HHonors members must complete three stays in Europe, Middle East or Africa before 29 February, 2016. This really ought to be simple; there are lots of reasonably priced Hilton hotels around the UK and continental Europe. Don’t forget to use one of these HHonors discount codes to reduce rates further.
If successful, your HHonors Gold status will be valid until 2018. As an added bonus, your HHonors elite status might be valuable to use for future status matches, particularly when the Marriott / Starwood merger goes through and the major chains start trying to steal each others’ loyal guests. I started out with an HHonors fast-track in 2013, leveraged that into a Hyatt Diamond challenge and from there to status matches with IHG Rewards Club and Club Carlson… So I’m pleased I did the fast-track in the first place.
