For UK residents, Topcashback is one of the best shopping portals available. Essentially, you receive a rebate of some or all of the commission that Topcashback receives. In others words… cash back on online purchases you were already planning to make. If you’ve never tried it, I recommend signing up using this link. (I would receive a much-appreciated small commission)
When you click on any retailer, and subsequently make a purchase through the new browser window that will open, your cash back should “track” – i.e. show on your account as “Pending” after a few hours. Over the following weeks, this will move to “Confirmed” and then “Payable”.
Once you have a balance that is “payable”, you can seek to withdraw it via a number of different channels, such as:
- Transfer to a UK bank account or Paypal
- Amazon.co.uk online vouchers
- Gift cards from a number of UK retailers
- Tesco Clubcard points
For mileage collectors, the prize is those Tesco Clubcard points. £10 of cashback earned at TopCashBack earns you 1,000 Clubcard points. These convert into 2,400 Avios or 2,500 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles. (more if you wait for an inevitable Virgin Atlantic conversion bonus, although these are getting smaller and smaller) If you value an Avios or Virgin Atlantic Flying Club mile at 1 pence, that £10 of cashback is now worth £24/25 in miles! The only inconvenience is that a maximum of £50 can be withdrawn annually as Clubcard points – however Hilton cashback is not subject to this cap.
Now to the point… I received an email from Topcashback promoting a nearly 20% in cashback promotion from Hilton and Topcashback during Hilton’s Winter Sale. Hilton’s Winter Sale offers 30-35% discounts on prepaid hotel bookings made before 31 January, 2016. The actual stay can take place throughout 2016 at hotels in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, although I highly recommend only booking those stays that are absolutely firm as you can’t change or refund these bookings.
Cash back is calculated on a pre-tax basis, but if we assume a £500 hotel booking, roughly £100 of cashback should track eventually. Once payable, that will convert via Tesco Clubcard (don’t convert direct to Avios) to 24,000 Avios / 25,000 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. At that 1p valuation, we are close to receiving a rebate of 50%! (or a couple of almost free flights to Europe)
Since you are booking direct with Hilton, you will also receive your usual HHonors points and qualify for any HHonors promotions such as the current Double Points promotion. Depending on your valuation of an HHonors point (mine is roughly 0.3p) this will add another 10-15% of rebate value in the form of HHonors points…
If you have a hotel stay requirement coming up shortly, it’s worth trying the Hilton via Topcashback –> Tesco Clubcard –> Avios or Virgin Atlantic miles process and see how it works for you…
