Starwood Preferred Guest and Delta Skymiles have been working together for a few years with something called Crossover Rewards. Essentially SPG Gold and Platinum members can earn 1 Starpoint for each USD spent on Delta Airlines flights. Delta elite members can also earn 1 mile for each USD spent at Starwood hotels.
Since I rarely fly Delta Airlines, I’ve never really taken advantage. However, SPG and Delta have announced a promotion that does not require Delta elite status.
From now until 30 June, 2016, SPG members can earn 2 Delta miles for each USD spent at Starwood hotels in the United States and Canada.
To be frank, Delta Skymiles have a poor reputation in the miles and points hobby – they even refuse to publish award charts. So I suspect many of my readers can’t be bothered with Skymiles…
However it is important to note that these bonus miles will be earned IN ADDITION to your regular Starpoints earning – no need to change your SPG account preferences to earn miles instead of points. So these are truly free miles, and even if you don’t ever expect to earn enough Skymiles for an award, it can’t hurt to earn a few Skymiles if you have any upcoming Starwood stays in North America.
