IHG Rewards Club have announced the return of their Accelerate promotion. This promotion will run from 1 January until 15 April, 2017.
As is now completely standard and expected from IHG, each member receives a series of individual targets to achieve. You can register for the promo and find out your own targets by visiting this IHG website.
A few things to keep in mind are:
- There is usually a special bonus for staying within the first month of the promotion that combines with a bonus for making just one stay, so it always pays to register sooner rather than later so that you can organise a night at an IHG hotel in January.
- If you stay a lot with IHG, you will have more difficult targets than those who stay infrequently. This seems entirely unfair to me, but at the same time IHG don’t want to shovel bonus points in the direction of an already loyal guest. So if you want rational, achievable offers in the future, you need to stay away from IHG for 6 months or so. If you don’t like your targets, show your disapproval by simply avoiding IHG.
- You can frequently buy IHG points for 0.55-0.6 US cents so, although 50,000 bonus points sounds good, it’s really only “worth” $250-300; in most cases, forget about doing mattress runs to hit your targets…
- I had hoped that IHG would bring back the “free night anywhere” promotion, but this must have proved too expensive for IHG, with people using the free nights only at expensive Intercontinental properties!
