Starwood Preferred Guest Status Challenge

Starwood Preferred Guest has published details of its status challenge. You can reach the promotion page by clicking on the following image:

As is usual with such things, you are required to have elite status with another hotel chain, although SPG haven’t specified which chains they will consider. You will also be disqualified if you have been a Platinum member within the last 5 years. You can request the challenge by e-mailing SPG using the link provided on the promotion page.

If accepted, you will be asked to choose a three-month window. These will be calendar months – i.e. June, July and August 2017.

If you apply for a Gold challenge, you must complete nine nights during your chosen three-month period. If you apply for a Platinum challenge, you must stay eighteen nights. Reward stays won’t help you; these must be paid nights. Should you complete the challenge, your new status will be valid until 28 February, 2019.

You can find the terms and conditions here.

The most interesting benefit of SPG Gold is the ability to match that status to Marriott Rewards Gold. (which comes with breakfast, lounge access, etc. at full service Marriott properties) You also might find it easier to complete the standard ten SPG stays during 2017, rather than nine nights during a three-month window.

But any status challenge has its value, so it’s worth checking to see whether it works for you…
